| The
new Junior High School was a joint effort between the Fife School
District and the City of Fife. The project included a new school
and community park. The school's highlights include a performing
arts center and two gyms.
Columbia
Junior High School featured a unique method of seismic stabilization
due to the nature of the soil on the site and its ability to
become unstable during seismic activity. The project was built
on wooden piles driven 40 feet into the ground and capped with
a reinforced concrete slab. These piling increase the stability
(and increase structural integrity) of the school in the event
of a large quake.
The
Athletic Field complex/ Dacca Community Park was constructed
in conjunction with the junior high. The complex included a
soccer field, four (4) ball fields, tennis courts, outdoor volleyball
court, concession stand with public restrooms, new football
field and track, bike and pedestrian path between fields, and
a community park.
The
project was schedule to be completed by July 2003, so they could
have the school ready to occupy by September. BNCC managed to
finish the project one (1) month early to ensure school would
start on time.
The
project also won the DJC
Top Projects on 2002.
